When it comes to studying abroad you have to Prepare, Prepare, Prepare…
First, I live in North Carolina and each state has an Italian Consulate that it is assigned to. I have included this below. So, My Mom and I had to fly to Philadelphia on Friday evening, get a hotel, rent a car because I was going to visit a couple of universities to tour so we needed to drive around the city.
It was a great Daughter and Mother trip, decided to take in a couple sites like The Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival, it was GREAT!..I was able to see all these lantern and light designs, so many colors and structures, it would make you say WOW.
The following day we ate lunch in China Town, walked around the city, had dinner at Reading Terminal Market “This is a MUST GO. Great food and it was fun just walking around and snacking, let’s just say I gained a pound or two just walking around the market.
Now back to your Visa, my Mom made sure we had all the documents needed, I added what they requested but we did miss a couple things, Here Is What We Missed.
- My Birth Certificate (I had my passport so I figured we didn’t need this but since I am a Minor it was requested)
- On the Visa Document, both parents need to sign (My Dad had to get a document notarized and email it to my Mom stating he has gave me permission to travel to Italy)
- Confirmation of being accepted to school (Need an official document, we had this)
- Flight Information (For both flight ways to Italy and Return Flight, we had this)
- Bank Statement (This must be notarized, we had this)
- Source of Funds (How I am going to support myself while in Italy, the program is giving me $500.00 per semester plus my parents will give me money)
Make an appointment with your State Italian Consulate and verify the documents you have are in order or YOU WILL BE RUNNING AROUND LIKE CRAZY!!!…(We were stressed, Thank You Daddy!)
You must create an account here to register for a visa, https://Prenotami.esteri.it
Also I heard each consulate for a specific state have their own requirements, again make sure you have what is required for your visa and the consulate.
Below is what was required from our Italian Consulate;
